Since writing poems to music, I wanted to do a song fitting for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I didn't just want to describe it, but personalise it. The most powerful statement is that Jesus took my place on the cross. I was supposed to die for my sins, but Jesus took my place so I could be forgiven, and take his place in the Heavenly Kingdom.
What a wonderful God we have.

"I Wasn't There" by KunzyPoet
I wasn’t there when Jesus agonized,
Sweating drops of blood from his brow that night
As he bowed before his Father
And pleaded In the garden
Asking God for another way
For Him to save the human race
I wasn't there after Jesus obeyed
God’s will for his death and then was betrayed
His disciples ran, all afraid
The violent mob took him away
to face the rage of angry priests
Who quickly signed his death decree
But It should have been me on the cross
But instead
My soul is saved
I deserved to die
But Jesus
took my place
And gave me eternal life
I wasn’t there when the spies told all their lies
And when they spat upon his face with spite
Then in disgrace he was stripped
Tied to a post where he was whipped
Made to carry a heavy cross
Didn't they know they were killing God?
It should have been me on the cross
But instead
My soul is saved
I deserved to die
But Jesus
took my place
And gave me eternal life
I wasn’t there
But if I'd been
Would I have forsaken him?
I wasn't there
But if I were
would I have left him and cursed?
I wasn't there
But if I was
It should have been me on the cross
But in my place, Jesus was
My soul is saved
I deserved to die
But Jesus
took my place
And gave me eternal life
My soul is saved
I deserved to die
But Jesus
took my place
And gave me eternal life
But Jesus
took my place
And gave me eternal life
